May 3, 2012Today we went over Ka and Kb (notes were handed out to play people...make sure to read the sections in Hebde, they will help you understand the material for tomorrow's class)
The rest of class was a work period to work on the Strong Acid/Bases worksheet (due on Monday) and the pH and pOH worksheet (due on Tuesday May 22...I would suggest doing it before the grad trip)

Those of you in the play you missed this...I will post the powerpoint so you can see what you missed...there will be copies of the powerpoint for you tomorrow in class. To help so you don't feel so lost you can read this section in Hebden to get an idea of what we are talking about

Handed out an outline for the first part of the acids and bases unit (Hebden questions are good to do...won't be marked)

April 27, 2012Covered a lot today...
We covered conjugate acid and base pairs (question 15-19 were assigned)
Also looked at a new table that we will use in the acid base unit (the relative strength of acids and bases) and talked about strong and weak acids and bases (questions 21-27 were assigned).
A worksheet was handed out...you are able to answer some of those questions...but not all....no due date yet!

April 26, 2012Today we covered the Bronsted Lowry theory of acids and bases. Questions 11 - 14 were assigned...and most finished in class. If you didn't finish in class the questions are due tomorrow

CHEM TEST
April 23, 2012Chem Test is Made! The test has
- 34 multiple choice + a bonus MC question. If you show your calculations there may be part marks awarded...
- 5 written questions (17 marks). You only need to answer 4 of the questions...similar to the math test where there is an option to do either question 1 or 2...if you do both you may get bonus marks. There is definitely a separating ions question, trial Ksp question, and titration question for written.
I will check emails regularly tonight in case you are having problems with the material. I strongly suggest you work through the reviews online and the ones that were handed out. It's the best way to study for this test...a lot of calculations. Remember too that I will be at school by 7:30 in case you need extra help (come to the door by my room...may not hear you at the other end!)

April 23, 2012Today we spent the class reviewing for the Chem Test. I will be here by 7:30 tomorrow morning if you want help on the material. Band students I would like it if you could write the test tomorrow...but if not you will have to make arrangements outside of class when we can write it (it's getting REALLY BUSY...so keep that in mind).

April 22, 2012I just posted an extra Chem Review for you if you want extra practice with multiple choice questions. There may be some questions that we didn't cover. If it looks like Greek to you...don't worry about it only pay attention to the ones that look familiar.
Test is not made yet...but will post what the breakdown is once I have made it!

April 16, 2012On Friday there was a quiz and then we worked on a lab (people away are omitted from doing the lab, not the quiz though)
Today we spent time working on titration questions in Hebden (page 101 #70-73) these were finished in class. Then a review and extra Ksp practice worksheet was handed out. Review is going to be marked...extra practice won't BUT there will be questions on your test that come from this extra practice worksheet!

April 12, 2012Today we read through the Tutorial 12 handout you were given that explains how to do titrations.
Homework is to finish off the last 4 questions on that handout (the self test). MAKE SURE TO SHOW ALL YOUR WORK...this is so IMPORTANT.
There is a quiz tomorrow on solubility. The quiz covers the following topics...
- separating ions
- solubility (using your table to determine if it soluble or if it forms a ppt)
- Ksp (writing it...finding it...comparing the trial to the actual)

We will start going over the answers on Thursday and Friday and go through some "hints/strategies" for writing a math multiple choice test

April 27, 2012Today was the test...sorry it was so long...didn't mean for it to be! Marks are great on the test, really pleased with how this went!
Next week we will start some provnicial exam review...do a mock provnicial test on Tuesday (double block) see what you know and what you don't remember, and then go from there with what we start to review on Thursday and Friday.
Last unit will start on May 8th...Trigonometry!

Worksheet was handed out...all 20 questions are due on Thursday (do some tonight and some on Wednesday...best way to learn is to practice). April 12, 2012Today we finished off the planning presentations. And then did a bit of reviewing in math....played a game to go over adding and subtracting systems.
Worksheet #2 (?) is due tomorrow. IF YOU FINISHED IT FOR TODAY's class you got bonus marks!
There is a quiz tomorrow on Adding/subtracting and solving by graphing...make sure you know how to do these.

April 5, 2012Today we covered how to solve a system of linear equations through graphing. There were 2 worksheets handed out. If you missed class don't worry about it, we can talk about it on Tuesday. Very short lesson...most people finished the 2 worksheets in class.

Today was a review class where we went over how to graph a linear equation (line) that's in slope intercept form or in standard form.
No homework becuase we finished and marked the worksheet in class! YAY!!!!

If you complete your planning project for Tuesday (beginning of class) you will receive bonus marks for being done on time. Presentations will start on Friday (during Mrs. Voogd's planning class) and then finish of Tuesday April 10.
Please email me your presentation before March 30 so that we are ready to go when you are presenting...no usb sticks please (takes up a LOT of time...if you are using a USB stick come see me BEFORE class starts either before school, break, or lunch and we will transfer it to the computer).

March 9, 2012Worked on planning projects today. These are due on March 27th. We will start presentations that day so be ready (will be a random draw so you don't know if it'll be you...I will also check to see if everyone is finished.
Once you are finished you can email me your presentation so we are ready to go when the presentations are.

March 6, 2012Today you were given a career reasearch assignment. You will have time to work on this again on Friday in the computer lab and I will let you know the due date once I talk to Mrs Voogd and see what her plans are for after spring break. You will probably need to work on it over spring break, this is going to be a large part of your planning 10 mark this term so take that into consideration when you are doing your assignment.

February 21, 2012Today resumes were due, and then we covered writing of cover letters. Homework for March 6th is to have your cover letter typed up. We will look at each others cover letters and resumes in class on the 6th.

Students were given a worksheet that to work through that helps them organize the information that is needed.

Then we wrote the quiz (some time in the morning block will be given for the quiz)
Again (for the next few weeks...) worksheets will be due but questions are suggestions for you to do...meaning quizzes really matter!

April 27, 2012Today we covered day 5 for sequences and series. Homework is Day 5 on the outline...due on Monday (along with day 3 and 4)
Quiz on Monday on this weeks material. There will be 4 questions similar to page 290 questions, 3 questions similar to page 295, 3 questions similar to page 300, no questions from day 4, 2 questions similar to page 309, and a bouncing ball problem like the example done in class today. All questions will be written, no multiple choice.

April 23, 2012Today we started the sequence and series unit. Outline will be ready either Tuesday or Thursday.
Day 1 notes was reviewing sequences...homework is page 290 #1-29 odd (omit #27b...no graphing calculator stuff either). This is due on Thursday
Second block we looked at the Fibonacci sequence. You will need to read an article called "The Fibonacci Sequence in God's Creation" that is posted on the blog. You need to find a Post (either a picture, video or other article) and then comment on your post by SUNDAY AT MIDNIGHT. You can comment on other people's posts as well! Have fun with this!

April 18, 2012Ok Here's the Math test breakdown...
There are 27 multiple choice questions...(you will need to be able to tell the difference between tan and cot graphs and be able to determine what a reciprocal graph looks like...you DO NOT HAVE TO DRAW EITHER OF THESE)
There are 5 written questions...lots of part marks with these ones NEED TO SHOW WORK
- you need to be able to write equations given information....write equations given a graph
- 2 problem solving ones...1 Ferris wheel and one year...you can choosewhich one you want to do, can do both for bonus marks.

April 16, 2012Today in math class we went over tangent, secant, and cosecant graphs.
The worksheet from day 5...(says Kuta software above) is due tomorrow. You do not have to do the cot and tan graphs...you will not be asked to draw these on your test.
Tomorrow is a review class...test is on Thursday. (I will talk about the "make up" log assignment/project on Thursday too when everyone is back)

April 11, 2012Ok...there are A LOT of missing assignments for Math 12 right now. I have posted them in the classroom for you to see tomorrow. The majority of you are missing Day 3 (page 199) and Day 4 (page 209) homework. This will be inlcuded in your mark for this report card.
Also remember that Day 5 homework is due tomorrow...which will also be included.
Band students you can slide it under my door if you finish it tonight so that it'll be included, if not...your mark for this term will change on your year end report card.
QUIZZES...
I have omitted your lowest scoring quiz from your mark this term. If you had 2 quizzes omitted already I didn't omit the lowest scoring quiz.
There is a quiz tomorrow...this will NOT be included on this report card as there are a bunch of students away that won't be able to make it up before report cards go home. It will cover all of trig so far...questions will be similar to the ones in your textbook.

April 9, 2012Seems like there are LOTS of questions about finding the period of a trig function. I have scanned a couple of pages that should help you figure this out. If you're still stuck you can email me or pop in before school to get help, remember though I have morning devotions until about 8:30 so not a lot of time for extra help

YOu don't have a quiz on Thursday, and Day 3 homework is not due...HOWEVER I strongly suggest that you work on what you can of day 3 homework so that you have less over the long weekend!
